@Barfly Club in Camden
31. Mai 2007
Just had a second great night with the Helsinki Vampires! Tonight it was the Barfly Club in Camden. It was a very small place that only holds 200 people and I was right up against the stage. I still have Timo Timo and Jyrki's sweat on me! And Bazie's plectrum in my pocket! I think the sound and the atmosphere was maybe better at Nottingham Rock City but both nights were great. As soon as we arrived to queue tonight the band walked up to go into the venue and we said hello and Jussi and Timo Timo said hello back!
They did 18 songs both nights:
Angels
Framed In Blood
Feel Berlin
Los Angeles
The Chair
Rocker
Wasting The Dawn
Frankenhooker
Betty Blue
Gothic Girl
Wings And Hearts
Sister Of Charity
Never Say Die
Dance D'Amour
Lost Boys
Brandon Lee
Perfect Skin
Devils
The older songs, such As Wasting The Dawn, Framed In Blood and Brandon Lee are still my favourites but I was surprised at how good the new songs sounded live and it made me like them even more. Frankenhooker was great and when they did the "You Suck!" bit Jyrki held the mic out to me and I sang it! It was a very small venue and sometimes the people at the front (including me) had to duck to avoid being hit by Timo Timo's guitar. I still have Jussi's beer in my hair from when he took a swig from the bottle then sprayed it into the air. He was playing in bare feet and a couple of times he stood up on the actual drums themselves (on the skins, not on the frame!)
Jyrki was on good form too. I think the crowd responded slightly more in Nottingham and that got him going too - at one point he jumped onto the people at the front and there he was often leaning into the crowd and getting people to sing into the mic.
The thing that impressed me the most was how fresh and energetic they were, playing with the enthusiam of a new band, but with all the experience of a band that have been together for years.
