There are bands that frequent festival visitors in Finland might feel like getting an overdose as they can be seen at practically all of them. Others have to be looked out for, and you have to travel to Heinola (near Lahti) just to see them live again.
Before The Dawn were in the late afternoon program of "Heinolan Valot" (The Lights Of Heinola) main concert, located in a park near the railway station, on a small stage, which caused somewhat family-picknick atmosphere. They were the first band where fans secured their places at the very front even 15 min before the gig started. However, that was not really necessary, at this time there were not so many people in the area, perhaps due to the pretty unstable weather situation.
The band seemed unimpressed by that and had a powerful entree with "Disappear". The setlist was similar to the one at Tuska festival, a "best of" from their 4 albums with 3 tracks from the recent "Deadlight", including their radio hit "Deadsong". Lars promised to refrain from comedy, but, well, a song title like "Morning Sun" and light rain starting almost simultaneously, he just couldnīt help it... Nobody in the audience seemed to care about the increased amount of humidity, and the band had a lot of fun, too: Guitarist Juho cracked jokes with fans at the front and later fought a guitar duel with Lars. Tuomas could be spotted grinning, despite the fact that a string broke earlier. The guys appear to be better attuned to one another with every show. Not surprising, the band as such, with this line-up, has been existing only a few months ...
Unfortunately there was no time for an encore in the tight schedule - or luckily, because less than five minutes after they left stage it started raining cats and dogs! Summary: Great show, great sound (transparent, not too loud, almost perfect!) that was worth having this 2-hours-trip from Helsinki!

Da gibt es Bands, die verpassen einem eifrigen Festivalbesucher in Finnland eine Überdosis, da sie bei fast jedem dabei sind... und dann gibt es welche, nach denen man Ausschau halten und bis Heinola (nahe Lahti) pilgern muss, um sie wieder einmal live zu sehen.
Before The Dawn spielten schon am Nachmittag beim Hauptkonzert des "Heinolan Valot" Festivals ("Die Lichter von Heinola"), das auf einer kleinen Bühne in einem Park nahe des Bahnhofs, bei absoluter Familienpicknick-Atmosphäre, stattfand. Zwar waren sie die erste Band, bei denen sich Fans schon in der Umbaupause einen Platz am Absperrgitter sicherten, jedoch hielt sich der Publikumsandrang in Grenzen. Lag wohl auch am wenig sommerlichen Wetter...
Die Band ließ sich davon aber nicht beeindrucken und legte mit "Disappear" schon mal einen starken Einstieg vor. Die Setlist glich der vom Tuska, also ein "Best Of" Querschnitt ihres Schaffens, mit drei Tracks vom aktuellen Album "Deadlight", darunter ihr Radio-Hit "Deadsong". Lars versprach zwar, keine Witze zu reißen, jedoch ein Songtitel wie "Morning Sun" und ein gleichzeitig einsetzender leichter Regenschauer - da konnte er es sich nicht verkneifen... Niemand im Publikum ließ sich von der erhöhten Luftfreuchtigkeit verscheuchen, und die gesamte Band hatte viel Spaß auf der Bühne: Gitarrist Juho blödelte mit Fans in der ersten Reihe, lieferte sich später mit Lars ein Gitarrenduell, und Tuomas grinste von einem Ohr zum anderen, obwohl ihm kurz zuvor eine Saite gerissen war. Die Jungs wirken von Gig zu Gig immer besser aufeinander eingespielt. Kein Wunder, gibt es die Band als solche und in dieser Besetzung noch nicht wirklich lange...
Für eine Zugabe gab es leider keine Lücke im Zeitplan - zum Glück, denn keine fünf Minuten nach ihrem Abgang begann es wie aus Kübeln zu schütten! Fazit: Ein gelungener Gig mit geilem Sound (transparent, nicht zu laut, nahezu perfekt!), der die knapp zweistündige Anreise von Helsinki wert war!
